Salvem l’Empordà – 15 years of environmental activism

On 14 June 2002, the IAEDEN called for the creation of a transversal citizen platform capable of defending the environment of the Empordà. Salvem l’Empordà has done a lot of work in the last 15 years. In 2006, it achieved one of its main goals when the public authorities approved the Land-Use Master Plan of the Empordà, drawn up to rationally organize the region’s growth over the course of the next 30 years. Furthermore many speculative development plans were brought to a halt (the Fluvià Marina, Vilanera golf course, housing development in Cap Ras, etc.) Without them, the developers’ bricks and mortar would have invaded a great deal more of our region.
Today, the group is still much needed to advocate the conservation of our environment. Because it is crucial that our rivers get the water they need and that our aquifers are not contaminated, that we support local agriculture, improve how we manage our natural spaces and promote a new energy culture.
