Wine tourism is in vogue. You visit a winery and stay for a few days at a small hotel located in the vineyards for full enjoyment of the peace and quiet in natural surroundings.
The road to Bell.lloc takes us into another universe. It may be on the Costa Brava, but in the privileged surroundings of the Gavarres range, a protected natural park in which you can breathe peace and quiet. The dirt road twists and turns among fields, vineyards, pine trees, Holm oaks, and olive groves – and the sea is the backdrop. As its name implies, this is a beautiful place where you can actually listen to the silence broken only by the song of birds. Here architecture and nature harmoniously blend. And it is here that you will find the hotel and winery Brugarol; they were designed in a way to make your visit unforgettable. How? By stimulating all five of your senses.
A structure in the shadows. The winery is practically buried on the border between vineyard and woods. The building by the architects RCR from Olot won the prize of the Architectural Institute of Girona in 2008. The design is daring, a perfect symbiosis between building and nature. The structure consists of parallel steel plates that slant in different directions, creating order and a feeling of dynamism at once. Underground we find a warren of naturally dark, insulated, and cool passages that are perfectly air-conditioned for first class conservation of wines. We enter this slanted world of shadows in which we gradually perceive the vats. Here the grapes that grew from the earth have returned to the earth to rest and ripen in peace. In the bottle deposit, the bottles remain for 14 months, awaiting the perfect moment to show their full force. Cracks between the steel slabs, earth, and stones the light enters and accompanies us on our visit with subtle shimmers and sheens. You can hear the silence here, smell the freshness and the wine, touch the steel to feel the full force of materials, and enjoy watching the play of lights and shadows. Finally we can taste the wine in the cavern of peace, and so complete the cycle having satisfied our five senses. After this visit you can enjoy a picnic seated under centenary trees.
The Mas Bell.lloc After discovering this word of sensory experience, you will want to stay for a few more days of deeper enjoyment. That is what Mas Bell.lloc is for. The building is attached to a 17th C. hermitage and has been restored with tender loving care. The rooms, some of which have sea views, are furnished with antiques, in contrast with very modern bathrooms in which you will find artisan soap made with oil from their own olive groves. The hotel is also equipped with natural fabrics, cotton, linen…. anything that favours peace and rest. There are six en-suite rooms with breakfast. You can also order lunch or dinner. Everything is prepared from fruit and vegetables from their own biological garden, sausage wares from their own pork, eggs laid by happy chicken, home made jams and honey, cheeses and, of course, the exclusive wines from the winery. In this rural hotel, a guest becomes a member of the family. Pepi and Mari Carmen will make your stay unforgettable. The vermouth on the house includes artisan-toasted peanuts and almonds. The long table invites you to enjoy breakfast in company and overlooking the sea. They also offer the “little vineyard house” with sea views for families or groups of friends, with three double rooms. Outside, you will find porches, a swimming pool and the wonderful nature of the Gavarres for your full enjoyment.
