| There must be something special about Cadaqués that makes it the favourite destination of tourists visiting our country. Dali discovered it early on and established himself here. Many years have gone by, but the little Costa Brava village has maintained its charm and has become a meeting point for all that desire more than just sun and beaches. The Lladó family opened a small hotel here in 1961. Ion 1964 Dali inaugurated the hotel’s restaurant. The relaxed yet perfect service made it a point of reference in Cadaqués. The location couldn’t be better, on the beach d’es Pianc, where the sound of the waves and the salty smell of the sea help you sleep. Yet this quiet cove is only five minutes on foot to the bustling centre. In time the property was improved: the garden became bigger, a swimming pool was added, Jacuzzi, Turkish baths…. And now Alex Lladó, the second generation of the family in command since 10 years, has crowned this work with a nearly compete remodelling to celebrate the hotel’s 50th anniversary. The interior design studio Denys & Von Arend was commissioned for this transformation, and they rightly opted for completely updating the premises while maintaining its personality. The result is amazing. Comfortable lounges, a terrace to enjoy an appetizer while gazing at the sea, perfectly designed rooms you want to settle down in, spectacular views, and all modern technology available for guests. The remodelling included the creation of three- and four-bed rooms, also communicating ones that are ideal for numerous families, and a minisuite with hydro massage tub. In a village in which art reigns, this historic and now modernized lodging couldn’t do without sculptures and paintings by renowned local artists such as Maurici Sbarbaro. This Uruguayan established in Cadaqués is a versatile artist who condenses the spirit of the Mediterranean in the austere lines of his works. Or Ramón Moscardó, shown in the dining room, a painter from Cadaqués who captures the essence of people and places. In summer, the pool and garden tempt you to enjoy rest or reading under the olive trees or lunch under the pine trees. Local produce cuisine is served, and fresh grilled fish from the Cap de Creus. For those who want more, the hotel has a basketball court, a paddle-size tennis court, ping-pong, pétanque, and bicycle or kayak rental. And lets not forget the innumerable opportunities the sea offers for either active or contemplative leisure. The sunsets from the porch, protected from the wind in winter and the heat in summer, will always be a stimulating option of overwhelming beauty. Who could want more?// |
