Mas d’en Dorra has opened its doors in Fortià, close by the Nature Park of the Aiguamolls. This art centre aspires to become a place where contemporary art, nature, and local heritage meet, and to become a platform for promoting art.
It is always a pleasure to welcome a new place, and it is even greater if it not only allows us to enjoy the works of the painters that live here, but is also in a beautiful location. Mas d’en Dorra offers us both: this new space dedicated to art and culture is located in Fortià, right next to the Aiguamolls Park.
The idea was Fina Trayter’s, an enterprising woman that dares to start a new business at a time when others decide to stop working and rest. I’ve always enjoyed the world of art, she comments, and many of my friends are painters. Now that my husband has retired, I think my moment has come. She spent some time researching for her project and looking for a team to accompany her on her new voyage and turn her dream into reality. An old barn belonging to the Masia where she lives has become a luminous and perfectly designed exhibition hall of 70 square metres. And already the first collective show is open under the title Cruill4. The exhibition runs until June 26th and includes works by Antonio Federico, Josep Ministral, Pia Crozet, and Gustau Carbó. Afterwards, each of these artists will present an individual show for two months. Antonio Federico presents us some very personal pieces. Mixing materials, shapes, and techniques in a very singular way he always creates something original. Crozet shows a set of sculptures that make us think about the relationship between the density of volumes, light, and translucent materials. Josep Ministral exhibits his latest works in an individual style rich in colours. Gustau Carbó also reveals his personal abstract approach that is always in search of experiments. These are established artists, each with their individual, recognizable language. This region has great creators with important works that deserve a place to exhibit. There will also be a portfolio of silkscreen prints by the artists. Each original will be reproduced 60 times in an effort to make art more accessible.
Yet Fina’s idea goes beyond all this, she doesn’t want her space to be only an art gallery but a point of reference, a place to meet. We won’t just exhibit art, she explains, we want a place where you can also present a book, give a lecture, listen to a concert or enjoy any other form of cultural event. We are open to all that enjoy culture. Mas d’en Dorra will be open all year round, all culture lovers will find a meeting place here, a point of communication that will set the standard. The project has started off well and we wish it a long life.//
